The next season kicks off on Saturday, July 15.
Once the Fit program has kicked off, we’ll accept new members on a case-by-case basis. Please call In Motion at 760.692.2900or send an email to inquire.
In Motion Fit does not have a drop-in program. Our all-inclusive membership covers our seminars, coaching, and training runs/walks.
We have one In Motion Fit program, but the memberships differ depending on your time commitment. Our 3 membership options are below, and prices and further details can be found here.
- Carlsbad Marathon/Half Marathon Official Training Group Membership, July 2017 – January 2018
- In Motion Fit Annual Membership, July 2017 – July 2018
- Upgrade to Annual Membership after completion of Carlsbad Marathon/Half Marathon, January 2018 – July 2018
From July through January, the In Motion Fit training program will meet for a group workout on Saturdays in two locations: Hospitality Point on Mission Bay and at West Inn & Suites in Carlsbad. The group will also meet occasionally at local running stores in San Diego and Carlsbad. From February to July, the In Motion Fit Annual program will move around and meet in different locations throughout San Diego County.
Walkers are welcome in all programs. If you are a walker interested in participating in either the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon or Half Marathon, be sure to check out the information below on the time limits before registering for either event.

In Motion Fit is not associated with a charity and you do not need to raise money to participate in this program. There are several good marathon-training programs where raising money for a charity is part of the program. While these can be effective and rewarding, we realize that it’s not for everyone and may be impossible to do year after year. Some of our members choose to raise money for a charity, but it certainly isn’t a requirement.
Everyone will do a 1-mile or a 3-mile pacing activity at the July orientation. You should walk or run at a comfortable conversational pace for this pacing activity. If you cannot talk, then you are running or walking too fast. Your time for this activity will be used to help us determine the best color group for you.
In Motion Fit is divided into training groups. You will be placed in the group that best suits your training pace. For example, if you train at a 9- to 10-minute-per-mile pace, you will be a member of the Yellow group. This system works because it allows you to train with those who are at your ability level.
These groups are:
Yellow = Faster than 10-minute-per-mile pace marathoners
Red = 10- to 13:44(marathon course time limit pace)-minute-per-mile pace marathoners
Orange = Faster than 12-minute-per-mile pace half marathoners
Green = 12- to 15-minute-per-mile pace half marathoners
Purple = 15-minute-per-mile pace and above half marathoners
First you walk or run with your color group. Your start time will vary from week to week and will be posted on the homepage of this website. The seminar will follow the workout and begin at approximately 9 a.m.
On most Saturdays, after the group run/walk, we’ll do announcements then hold a 15- to 20-minute seminar. Topics will all be health and fitness related, and will be led by knowledgeable professionals or coaches.

The orientation includes a program introduction and a 1- or 3-mile placement activity to help us determine the best pace-related color group for you. The orientation will take approximately 1.5 hours.
Yes, you can register and pay online with a credit card. Credit cards are also accepted at the orientation.
Yes, you should still sign up! Our coaches can get you up to speed when you are able to attend.
Sure! In fact, we encourage you to experience a race situation prior to participating in the race you’ll be training for.
Realizing that most people lead very busy lives, this program is one that can easily fit into your schedule. For the most part, the program calls for running or walking only 4 days a week. Your long run or walk will usually take place on Saturday with your group. During the week, you run or walk for time only (i.e., 30 minutes), and for distance on Saturday.
During the week, we run for minutes. If the schedule says “30” on a Tuesday, you should run or walk 30 minutes. Do this at a comfortable pace unless instructed to do otherwise. On the weekends, we do miles, so the schedule will say 4 miles. Listen to your coaches on how to run these miles each week.
No, many members are unable to make every Saturday session. The Saturday seminars are important, but you can always ask your coach or running buddies about what you missed. However, those long runs/walks are a lot easier when you’re doing them with the group! And in our experience, the success of our members is directly proportional to their ability to attend the Saturday training runs/walks and seminars. When you do have to miss a week, check this website for the next week’s schedule.
