Participants are eligible for a SoCal 9×5 medal by completing the SoCal 3×5 in three consecutive years. That’s right, on year three you will receive TRIPLE bling at the AFC Finish Line Festival and at the end of the SoCal 9×5 series you will have received 13 medals!!
No. The normal SoCal 3×5 rules still apply. You must begin with the Carlsbad Surf Sun Run 5K in January, followed by the La Jolla Shores 5K in April and then the America’s Finest City 5K in August for three consecutive calendar years.
Yes! Once you’ve accepted your first SoCal 9×5 medal, the challenge restarts and you are eligible again after three consecutive years of completing the SoCal 3×5.
Once you complete the SoCal 3×5 two years in a row, and complete the Carlsbad Surf Sun Run 5K and the La Jolla Shores 5K in your third consecutive year, you’ll be eligible for the SoCal 9×5! Check your eligibility here.
As soon as you confirm you’re on the list be sure you are registered for the America’s Finest City 5K. You will receive a special SoCal 9×5 bib for the final race, the America’s Finest City 5K in August. You will use this bib to redeem your commemorative SoCal 9×5 medal after your race.

SoCal 9×5 Rules
- You must register using the exact same name and birth date for each event.
- You must wear the race timing device and receive an official time for each event. If you do not have an official finishing time, you will automatically be disqualified.
- Entry into each event is not guaranteed – register early to ensure your spot and save money.
- Each event has its own time limits – to be eligible for the SoCal 9×5 you must adhere to each time limit.
Finishers of the SoCal 9×5 will receive an impressive commemorative medal at the Bling Bestowment booth at the America’s Finest City Finish Line Festival! TRIPLE bling baby!
