Cowboy Jack Johnson was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised as an Army brat. While obtaining a Sociology B.A. degree from UCSD, he spent summers working fairs as a trick card magician. Also, he was a singing cowboy at Rawhide Ranch in Bonsall, California. As an entertainer at Opryland in Nashville, he sang “There’s a Tear in My Beer” by Hank Williams, Sr. on the Grand Ole Opry. After such a great inspiring audience response, Jack put together ‘The Hank Show’, a 1950 authentic tribute band covering Hank’s music. He also created ‘Band in Black’, a replica tribute to Johnny Cash. Cowboy Jack’s shows have performed all over southern California, Branson Missouri, Florida, Canada and Las Vegas. His music has been played on radio stations in Europe and Australia.

Semisi Ma’u directs his versatile group keeping his traditional Tongan rhythms as a foundation. He writes, arranges and performs music with an ever-changing line-up of musicians – Bula Music.
When Semisi mixes Polynesian rhythms with any style of music he takes a liking to, he calls it “Bula Music” The word “bula” is a greeting from Fiji. The San Diego-based musician feels that combining traditional elements of his native music with other styles adds new vitality and depth. So far, the songs that have undergone this transformation are diverse Rock, Reggae, Calypso, Jazz, Latin, Hip-hop and folk songs have all been used. The idea is open to any style and, in fact, the trial and error involved in super imposing them is half the fun.
