Join us for the 48th annual America’s Finest City Half Marathon & 5K on Sunday, August 17, 2025! Widely celebrated as San Diego’s most scenic half marathon, this iconic summer race takes you from the tip of Point Loma all the way to historic Balboa Park, showcasing the best of America’s Finest City.
Below you’ll find the full course overview for the half marathon, including key event details and important tips for getting to the start line. Get ready for 13.1 miles of unforgettable views and quintessential San Diego scenery. Here’s your mile-by-mile preview:
Miles 1–2: Sunrise Start at Cabrillo National Monument
Your race begins at the historic Cabrillo National Monument atop Point Loma. Watch the sunrise as you run through the scenic Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, honoring those who served.
Important note about the start line:
The only way to access the Cabrillo National Monument start is via the event-provided bus. There are no participant drop-offs allowed at or near the start. Buses depart from Balboa Park between 4:00–5:15 AM ONLY. If you miss the last bus, you will not be able to run the half marathon.
Bus pickup locations in Balboa Park:
- Southwest corner of President’s Way & Park Boulevard
- Northwest corner of Zoo Place & Park Boulevard (about ¾ mile from the finish area)
Plan ahead, arrive early, and enjoy the scenic ride to the start line—it’s part of the experience!
After starting, enjoy a fast downhill second mile as you enter Point Loma. Restrooms are available at the start line and before you exit the military gate.
Miles 3–4: Neighborhood Charm and Harbor Views
Run through beautiful Point Loma neighborhoods with a Support Station near Dupont & Silvergate. As Gage Drive turns into Talbot Street, enjoy another downhill stretch and sweeping views of San Diego Harbor. There’s another Support Station at Talbot & Evergreen.
Miles 5–6: Harbor Drive & Spanish Landing
Turn onto Harbor Drive from Scott Street and take in views of boats bobbing in the harbor. On mile four, you’ll pass Fisherman’s Landing. On mile five, you’ll cross over the N. Harbor Drive bridge and pass Cancer Survivors Park. A Support Station is on Harbor Drive near McCain Road.
Miles 7–8: Airport, Sheraton Hotel & Harbor Island
Mile six takes you past the San Diego Airport and our host hotel and Expo/Packet Pickup Event site, the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. Mile seven takes you onto Harbor Island with a stunning stretch of bayfront views. There’s a Support Station at the east end of Harbor Island.
Miles 9–10: Embarcadero Waterfront
Exit Harbor Island and head toward the Embarcadero. There’s a Support Station on Harbor Drive near mile 9.5. Mile 10 runs almost entirely along the waterfront—soak up the ocean breeze as you pass the famous Star of India. Another Support Station is on Ash Street after you turn off Harbor Drive.
Miles 11–12: Downtown & Balboa Park
Head through scenic Downtown San Diego, passing the iconic 1915-built Santa Fe Depot. Find a Support Station near 110 W. A Street.
Then climb 6th Avenue, and for those of you that asked, no, an escalator hasn’t been installed… You will have to run up the hill. Don’t worry, you’ve got this!! Support Stations are available at 6th & Elm and Balboa Drive & El Prado.
Mile 13–Finish: Cabrillo Bridge & Your Celebration
Cross the stunning Cabrillo Bridge into Balboa Park and enjoy a final downhill sprint to the finish line!
Once you finish, the celebration begins! Grab:

- Finisher snack bag
- Hollandia chocolate milk
And don’t miss the Beer Garden! Toast your accomplishment with a complimentary beer (21+) while you relax in the shade, enjoy tunes from DJ Laiq, and share race stories with friends and family.
